The challenge
Hullabaloo sits in a park with the city immediately around it. Anyone launching a drone here is a minute’s walk from the public road outside the site. Security can do nothing about that as long as they do not know where the pilot is standing.
The organiser wanted the airspace in view above all during the evening programmes, when the crowd is at its densest.
The approach
One DRID on an elevated position in the middle of the site, so the range also reached the surrounding streets where a pilot might be standing. Coverage ran during the evening programmes only, on the two days the festival was open.
- Zone above the public area with a low altitude threshold
- SMS alerts to the production office and the security coordinator
- Live picture in the dashboard at the production office and on security phones
- Installed and removed by AEROTECT, operated by the organiser's own team
The result
Over two evenings the platform registered 11 drones. One of them flew above the public area. The pilot was on the map, just outside the site, and was approached there by security.
The count is lower than at a multi-day festival, and there is a plain reason for that: the unit ran during the evening programmes only, not during the day and not overnight.
