Three days, 120,000 visitors and one receiver on the highest point

The challenge

Paaspop's permit prohibits drones above the site and the campsite. Until 2026, security and police had no visibility of this beyond someone spotting a drone with the naked eye. The site lies in an open landscape with a main stage, several tents and a large campsite in use day and night.

The organiser wanted a single picture for the control room and a direct line to the police, so that a pilot could actually be approached.

The approach

One DRID, mounted high and centrally on the site. From that position the range covered the whole festival site, the campsite and the car parks around it. The unit was installed and tested on Thursday so the picture was live when the gates opened on Friday.

  • Zones around the main stage, the campsite and the emergency services access route
  • SMS alerts to the organiser's control room and the security team leader
  • Operated during the event by the organiser's own team
  • Temporary platform access for the police

The result

Over three days the platform registered 58 drones within range. Four of them flew above or right next to the site. In all four cases the pilot was on the map and was approached by security. The remaining observations came from the surrounding area and stayed well outside the zones.

Afterwards the organiser received a report with all observations, times and positions for the debrief with the municipality.
