Use case

Drone detection for solar and wind farms

A solar park is large, empty and remote. Hardly anyone walks around, there are hundreds of thousands of euros of copper and inverters in it, and a ten-minute drone flight shows exactly where that sits and how the fence runs.

Why people fly above a site like this

  • Reconnaissance ahead of theft of cable, copper or inverters.
  • Thermal inspection by third parties, sometimes commissioned by someone you know nothing about.
  • Curiosity and imagery: a large park makes an attractive shot.
  • At wind farms additionally: flights close to the rotor, with real risk to both the aircraft and the installation.

What a deployment looks like

Number of units
One unit on a central elevated position covers a park of a few hundred hectares in open terrain. For a long, narrow park or one with buildings around it, two.
Mounting
On an existing mast, the substation roof or a container. Permanent, all year.
Deployment model
Buy with a platform subscription, or fully offline on the grid operator’s own server. See deployment models.
Alerts
SMS to whoever is on duty, or through the API into the control room already watching the park.

Where the limit sits

The value here is rarely the single incident but the history. After six months you can see whether flights are increasing and whether the same serial numbers return. That is the substantiation behind a measure that costs money.
